Murder trial coverage

Toward the end of a Sunday night shift in the Sacramento Bee office, I saw a local TV station’s tweet about police arresting a man in connection with a two-year-old missing person case in a nearby county. I quickly called the sheriff’s office and got a scoop — it was actually three men who had been arrested, all on suspicion of murdering two missing teenagers. Because of my involvement in the story, I was able to help the crime reporter and courts reporter with pre-trial coverage; I attended the arraignment, where all three men entered “not guilty” pleas, ensuring the trial would move forward.
