Affordable Care Act repeal effort

It was all hands on deck at Kaiser Health News when the Senate released its proposed repeal-and-replace-Obamacare bill in summer 2017, and I was sent into midtown Sacramento to do some shoe-leather reporting. Braving a triple-digit heat wave, I interviewed dozens of Sacramento residents about their pre-existing conditions, health care concerns and thoughts on the repeal process. Their stories and opinions were featured in two KHN stories, one about Californians’ reactions to the bill and another about whether millennials would still buy health insurance if the individual mandate was repealed (it was eventually repealed as part of the tax code overhaul in December 2017).
